Open access resources

Open access is free online access to scientific research output (scientific articles, research data, conference proceedings and other materials), which every user can freely read, copy, print a small number of copies, and save to their computer media. The development of open access provides an opportunity to disseminate scientific research results worldwide and provide better access to global scientific information resources.

Open access resources are a great alternative to resources stored in subscription databases, because the long-standing system of scholarly communication, based on increasingly expensive commercial publishing, no longer satisfies the participants in the scientific process. The scientist, his institution and the public do not have to pay for the results of these studies, which were often financed by taxpayers.

Open access resource directories:

  • DOAJ – catalog of peer-reviewed open access scientific journals (all major branches of science).
  • OpenDOAR – directory of academic open access repositories (all major branches of science).
  • ROAR – a registry of open access repositories with links to institutional repositories worldwide (all major branches of science).
  • DOAB – open access book catalog (all major branches of science).
