Utena is the capital of Eastern Aukštaitija and one of the oldest towns of Lithuania that was mentioned for the first time in a letter of the King Mindaugas in 1261.
For the 750th anniversary of the town a unique attraction – a shining and playing fountain with water screen - was equipped in Lake Dauniškis. The lake reflects a snow-white chapel of Mary Queen of Martyrs.
Utena Municipality is situated in the North East of Lithuania, 97 km north of the capital Vilnius.
Utena is within one hour of the Via Baltica highway, which connects Eastern Europe with Western Europe and Scandinavia.
A blue coat of arms reflects a shining golden horseshoe with golden sparks and symbolizes happiness and protects the well-being of the house against the devil eye.
